The word “Revision” probably sounds like the most boring word in the world right about now but using these 5 steps can help you balance your revision life with your day-to-day life. No one wants to revise for 24 hours but guess what, you don’t have too! Follow these 5 steps and finish your exams like a winner!

Step 1 – Take Note
Everyone learns in different ways, some students prefer to just listen in lectures and others will write down every word. However, making bullet points and taking note of key points will help you when you sit down to revise. You can look back at what was said, books to read that might help and points that you may have forgotten.

Step 2 – Plan Ahead
The easiest way to plan ahead is to make a timetable – Get everything down on paper! Add your exam days and what subject you will be studying daily. Everyone is different, so make sure that you make a study plan you feel comfortable with and you will stick too. Then stick it on your wall so that you can see how many days you have left to study for each exam, this will help you prioritise your subject areas.

Step 3 – Learn how to take break
Yes, you read this right – you need to take a break! Overworking yourself can make you feel tired and when you feel tired, your brain is not working at its best! This means nothing is registering but having a 5-10 minute break every 20-50 minutes of revision means that you are constantly focused when you are revising. There’s no need to feel guilty to have the odd night off but make sure you have a revision session the next day. We all just need a break sometimes.

Step 4 – Test, Test, Test Yourself!
Practice makes perfect – Going through old exam papers will help you understand the format of questions that will be asked in your exam and when you start to time yourself, you will be able to see how much time you need to spend on each question.

This is also a good way to see what areas you need to do a bit more revision on to get that A* grade you’re hoping for.

Step 5 – Eat right, Be bright
The best way to have 100% concentration is making sure you eat right and getting enough sleep. Healthy foods such as fish, almonds, yoghurt and fruit keeps your brain more active and making sure that your body gets enough rest helps you feel more energised for the next day.

Remember – If you take care of your body, it will take care of you!

As a final tip, make sure that you are well hydrated as it helps your brain to work at its best. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout your revision and on the exam day.
