5 Reasons to Live at Lace Market Studios

You know when you get a new phone, there is a clear plastic bit on the screen that is very satisfying to take off? Well imagine doing that not for something you can hold in your hand, but for something you can actually live in!

The Lace Market Studios is a brand new and super exclusive student accommodation in Nottingham’s creative quarter.  There are many ‘best-bits’, but my personal favourite is the fact that it’s going to be a brand new building, purpose built just for you! And this September, you get to take off the wrapper and be the very first to live in luxury.

Anyway, here are some more of our best bits:

1. Location, Location, Location
The Lace Market.  That’s all I need to say really… why would you choose to live anywhere else in Nottingham? I work here – and when I finish work, I play here – and when I’m not working, I shop here!  (I wish I lived here too).  It’s only 16 minutes to NTU on foot and just 17 minutes to UON by tram; which, according to a study we recently read (on Citylab.com), is the ideal amount of time to spend commuting each way, every day, for a fulfilling and happy life of well being.

2. Balconies and Light
The worst thing you can do to a small box room, is give it a small box window – we’ve seen it happen!  That’s why, our huge studios are being built with floor-to-ceiling windows (and black out curtains). So, let there be light! Oh, and if that’s not enough, why not choose one of our balcony studios? Imagine that, your very own private balcony – it’s just like being on holiday.

 3. Social Space
Wake up in a comfy double bed, watch the sunrise from your balcony, and wander downstairs to see my smiling face. Then, enjoy a coffee, and even a croissant in our lounge, before heading off to Uni for a hard days study.

At the end of the day, skip home, walk through the door, “did you have a good day?” …but before you head up to your sumptuous studio, drop your bag and put your feet up. De-stress and unwind in our double height social lounge – just for you. Shout ‘Hi’, tune into a music channel and melt into our sofas. Or, if you fancy a game of pool I’ll even challenge you – although I always lose.

4. Designed for You
Our studios feature a bathroom with an XL shower, a bigger desk and a kitchen – plus a dedicated eating space, so they’ll be no more dinner from your desk. With a wardrobe, draws, under bed store and a cleaning cupboard, there’s loads of extra deep storage. There’s added plugs too for all of your phones, laptops, tablets, lamps, drones, hover boards and hydron colliders; which means no more fighting for plugs.

5. Bigger than Average
We’ve had our tape measure out and have been all around town and…drum roll, we ARE bigger than average – after all, who wants average? From 18m² to 32m² – you could fit a few elephants in our studios (no pets please).  More space = More comfort!

Not bad hey?

But let’s remember the most important thing; you! Coming to university is huge; living and learning in a new place, a new space and well, a new everything! It’s a very exciting time and what better way to enjoy it and relax than to be sitting in the library, knowing you’re coming home to the ultimate comfort. A good night’s sleep and a home away from home can really help you settle in and focus on why you’re here – to study.

And that’s why we’re here, to give you a bigger, brighter, and comfier space to live and learn in – all from the best part of the city; close enough to everything and far away enough to get some peace.

I wish I was a student again!

Top tips for international students adjusting to Nottingham living

Nottingham may seem a million miles away from home and everything may be a bit strange for you in the first couple of days. But, we promise after a couple of weeks you’ll feel right at home.

Here at Lace Market Studios, we’ll do everything we can to help you feel welcome and adjust to your new Nottingham student accommodation, and that includes sharing a few tips for how to settle in to life as a Student in Nottingham…

Attend your University’s welcome events.  You’re tired, you’ve barely unpacked your suitcase, and all you want is to lie back and catch up on some sleep – why on earth would you abandon your lovely student accommodation to attend a welcome event with a load of people you don’t know?

We know, we know, but the only way you’re going to learn your way around student life and make new friends is by putting yourself out there.  Your university will offer orientation days/weeks, which will teach you about important issues like healthcare, immigration rules (for international students), welfare, opening a bank account, and police registration. There will also be social events to help you meet new friends and introduce you to the surrounding areas, such as social evenings, talks, campus and local tours.

Don’t forget that we’re also around 24 hours a day, and if you need any advice on anything, we’ll do our best to help, just pop down to reception and talk to us.

Personalise your room.  Ok, so we’re not talking major building works, but little touches really do help keep home sickness at bay.  We are sure you’ve probably brought lots of photographs and momentos with you from home so we’ve provided you with a pin board! Add a few personal items, like flowers, or keepsakes, and really make your student accommodation ‘home’.

Stay in touch. Here at Lace Market Studios we offer free Wi/Fi to all residents, so there’s really no reason not to drop your loved ones a quick Skype from time to time, just to let them know you’re settling in and enjoying your student living experience.  It’s also a great way to keep track of the gossip back at home!

Join (start) a society. If you miss spending time with people from your culture, why not join an international society? Most Universities have one where you can find friendship, intelligent conversation, and news of things going on back home. Remember, though, that you will get more out of your time in Nottingham and improve your English if you mix widely with all cultures and don’t just stay with people from home, so try your best to make friends with other Lace Market Studios residents, remember you’re all going through the same things so can offer each other the support and friendship you need.

There are many weird and wonderful student societies, beyond international ones (most will try and get you to sign up to them during Fresher’s week!) – whether you want to discuss economics, build the Death Star out of Lego, raise money for charity, practice Origami, or even play football with robots!  Whilst not all the examples featured in education UK are Nottingham based, there’s nothing stopping you setting up your own!

Come and live at Lace Market Studios.  Ok, if you’re already a current resident, you’ll know this already, but here at Lace Market Studios we take all the stress out of student living, so you can concentrate on learning and enjoying your time studying in Nottingham.  Our custom built student apartments are safe and secure (we have a 24-hour staff presence, CCTV in all access areas, and secure key fob access to both the main entrance and your studio), and our all inclusive costs mean you won’t have to worry about paying utility bills on time.  We’re also incredibly popular with international students, so you’ll quickly find new friends and settle right in.

We hope you found our guide useful – if at any time you’d like to book a viewing of Lace Market Studios, just fill out this form and we’ll come right back to you.
